Story & Inspiration

This portrait honors NHL Hall of Famer Brett Hull, the “Golden Brett,” who played eleven seasons with the St. Louis Blues and ranks fifth all-time in career goals. The piece was created for the American Parkinson Disease Foundation’s annual Jack Buck Memorial Golf Tournament and Auction.

Hull is shown in the classic Blues jersey, the iconic Blue Note logo and captain’s C on his chest, accents of yellow and red complementing the jersey’s warm tones, his expression one of quiet calculation as he reads the play and decides when to strike with one of his famous one-timers. The background is a non-objective mix of grays and blues, with drips, polka dots, and splatter paint adding energy to the canvas. Hull scored 741 career goals, among the highest totals in NHL history, and remains one of the few players to ever score 50 goals in 50 games; in the 1990-91 season alone he scored 86 goals, the third-highest single-season total ever. He won the Hart Memorial Trophy as MVP in 1991 and two Stanley Cups, with Dallas in 1999 and Detroit in 2002, and he and his father, hockey legend Bobby Hull, remain the only father-son duo to each score 600 NHL goals.
