Illuminated Apartments: Backstreets in the Sunlight

Illuminated Apartments captures a striking yet quiet moment in the back alleys of Florence, where beauty lives in overlooked corners. Part of my Tuscany, Italy series, the piece offers a glimpse into the raw, unfiltered charm of Florence that most tourists never see. Instead of postcard-perfect facades, it highlights the lived-in beauty found in winding alleys and mismatched architecture.

As you walk through Florence, the courtyards are often hidden within, leaving the backs of homes and apartments exposed to the sun: sun-drenched rooftops, green shuttered windows, and the complex geometry of buildings stacked across generations. The dramatic shadow that cuts across the bottom of the canvas grounds the scene in time, hinting at the rhythm of the afternoon sun. Through subtle texture and expressive brushwork, I turn an ordinary cluster of buildings into a celebration of structure, light, and memory.

Cotton Canvas

Raw, unbleached 12 oz. cotton canvas. Stretched by hand and primed with two coats of premium, artist-grade gesso.

Wood Stretcher Bars

Made from solid, knot-free pine sourced and milled in the U.S. Heavy-duty bars resist warping and maintain canvas tension.

UV Varnish

4 coats of UV-blocking acrylic varnish form a permanent, non-removable film that resists yellowing and fogging.

How to Purchase

You may reserve the painting, which will direct you to a page to enter your email and shipping address so we can create a shipping quote.
We will email you an invoice for the painting and shipping, which you may pay by credit card, bank transfer or wire.

Transit times (continental US)
• UPS Ground: usually 3–7 business days in transit.

Damage in transit
• If your painting arrives damaged, email info@kylelucks.com immediately with photos of the damage and packaging.
• We will file a claim with the carrier and repair or replace as needed.
