Story & Inspiration

Jordan Binnington was the painting that ignited my eleven-piece series honoring the St. Louis Blues’ historic 2019 Stanley Cup Playoff run. Inspired by Binnington’s play in the semifinals against Dallas, I painted him first, and when the Blues won the next game, I kept going, one painting per game.

The portrait shows a profile view of Binnington and his goalie mask, laser-focused on the action in front of him, a glowing orange background complementing the blue, with drips and polka dots adding energy. His 2018-19 rookie campaign remains one of the most historic goaltending performances in NHL history: taking over a struggling Blues team in January 2019, he posted a 24-5-1 record with a 1.89 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in his first 32 games, then became the first rookie goaltender in NHL history to record 16 playoff wins, capping the run by stopping 32 of 33 shots in a winner-take-all Game 7 against the Boston Bruins.
