This portrait honors Roman Bürki, St. Louis CITY SC’s captain and star goalkeeper, his black goalie jersey popping against a background of bright lime green, the color of his other jersey, and CITY red worn by the rest of the team. Green from the pitch reflects off his face, neck, and jersey.
I finished the painting live at Energizer Park in St. Louis, home of St. Louis CITY, with 20 percent of each sale donated to Pink Ribbon Good for breast and gynecological cancer patients. The Swiss-born goalkeeper built his reputation over a standout seven-year tenure with Borussia Dortmund, making more than 230 appearances and helping the club win the DFB-Pokal in 2017 and 2021, before making international headlines by joining MLS expansion side St. Louis CITY SC in 2023, leading the team to a first-place finish in the Western Conference and earning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors. He has also earned 30 caps for the Switzerland National Team, including an appearance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
