Europe 2024: Ireland, Amsterdam & London

It is hard to believe the first half of the year is over and we will be celebrating the Fourth of July in a few days. June absolutely flew by, mainly because I spent over half the month traveling around Ireland, Amsterdam, and London. My annual Europe trip comes at the perfect time, just after the Palm Beach season ends and before the peak summer tourism traffic abroad kicks in. It provides a welcomed change of scenery, gets me out of my comfort zone and daily routines, and re-energizes my batteries for the second half of the year.

Someone asked me what my favorite part of the trip was, and I’d have to say exploring Dublin and Kilarney in Ireland, since it was my first time there. Growing up in St. Louis, a city famous for Budweiser beer, it was so cool to see Dublin’s equivalent in Guinness. The lakes and mountains in Killarney were a sight for sore eyes considering there is no elevation change in South Florida. It was also about 20 degrees cooler!

Here are the rest of the highlights:

Dublin, Ireland: Guinness Storehouse and Jameson Distillery, Vermeer originals at the National Gallery, scone-making class and lunch at Ballyknocken Farm with celebrity chef Catherine Fulvio, dinner at Luttrellstown Castle (made headlines as the wedding venue for Victoria and David Beckham).

Killarney, Ireland: Europe Hotel with amazing lake and mountain views, golf at Tralee (designed by Arnold Palmer) and Waterville (updated by Tom Fazio), live music and fish and chips, my first ever helicopter flight!

Amsterdam, Netherlands: Warm stroopwafels, Dutch apple pie, canal cruise at night, Rembrandt’s neighborhood where he lived in the mid-1600s, walking all around the gorgeous city and admiring the canals and architecture.

London, England: National Portrait Gallery, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, Gerhard Richter and Roy Lichtenstein originals at the Tate Modern, photography exhibit at the Saatchi Gallery, gin martini at DUKES in Mayfair, walking through Hyde Park on my way to another order of fish and chips.

I’d love to hear your thoughts if you have been to any of these cities or want to go. I never get tired of talking about travel! In the meantime, I will be getting settled back into West Palm Beach and kicking off a number of commissions.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend. Be safe and enjoy the fireworks!
Kyle
