The Art of Bourbon - Live Painting in Kentucky
Have you heard of Bardstown, Kentucky? If not, I’m guessing you aren’t a bourbon fanatic. The small town, located 45 minutes south of Louisville, happens to be the Bourbon Capital of the World. I visited September 13-15 for the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, in partnership with RD1 Spirits. The Lexington-based distillery wanted to deliver an unforgettable experience for attendees and brought me in to paint live during the three day event as part of “The Art of Bourbon” campaign.
I got a head start on two original 24”x36” paintings in my studio, one of a horse race in Lexington and another of the festival grounds in front of the Oscar Getz Museum of Bourbon History. The paintings were finished on-site in front of thousands of bourbon lovers from all over the world and then raffled off to two lucky winners. The interactions I had over the three days were a reminder of why I am an artist - I love sharing my passion and process with others and seeing the emotions the different subjects evoke.
