The mugshot that made him famous twice
This portrait reimagines Frank Sinatra’s famous 1938 mugshot, taken when he was 23 years old, rendered in black and white with his piercing blue eyes as the singular point of color, a nod to his lifelong nickname, “Ol’ Blue Eyes.”
Inside the Art: The Story Behind Frank Sinatra “Ol’ Blue Eyes”
Bold brushstrokes of black and white sit over a lightly primed cotton canvas, letting the raw, tan color of the fabric show through for warmth, while drips, polka dots, and splatters show discreetly through Sinatra’s face, adding character and drama fitting for a stressful arrest. In 1938, Sinatra was arrested by the Bergen County, New Jersey Sheriff’s Department and charged with seduction, an archaic crime alleging he’d convinced a woman to sleep with him under a false promise of marriage; the charge was dropped when police learned the woman was already married, only for him to be arrested a second time weeks later on an adultery charge. He spent about 16 hours in jail across both arrests, and both charges were eventually dismissed, but the mugshot itself has endured as one of the most famous in pop culture history.

Print Technique & Materials
Prints are reproductions of original paintings using a high-quality inkjet printing technique known as "giclee."
Unframed and framed artwork is printed on archival cotton rag paper, which is acid free and will resist fading and discoloration for generations. Unframed prints on paper are unsigned and feature a 1.5"-2" white border around the image. Most unframed prints are non-standard sizes and will require a custom mat to properly display the artwork, though the outer dimensions of the mat will fit standard frame sizes.
All framing is custom made to the exact specifications of each image, with an acid-free white mat and acrylic glazing (glass is prone to breaking when shipped). Most prints are non-traditional sizes and will not fit properly in mats or frames purchased off the shelf, therefore custom framing is recommended.
Canvas prints are referred to as "gallery-wrapped" because the color or image wraps around the sides of the canvas and it is stapled on the back. The canvas is wrapped around 1.5" deep wood stretcher bars and arrives ready to hang.
Framed canvas prints feature a "float frame," which has a 0.25" gap between the edge of the canvas and the frame moulding. The frame is 2" deep.
Custom Mat for Unframed Paper
Most unframed prints are non-standard sizes and will require a custom mat to properly display the artwork, though the outer dimensions of the mat will fit standard frame sizes.
You can purchase a custom mat from your local frame shop or online. If online, we suggest Matboard & More. Choose Arctic White in Decorative Quality, or if you prefer to upgrade, select White Art in Conservation Quality.
