In late March 2020, life in St. Louis had come to a standstill under strict stay-at-home orders. Like many, Kyle found the uncertainty overwhelming, but he was also struck by countless stories of people expressing love and support in inventive, heartfelt ways despite physical distance. This outpouring of compassion inspired him to create Hearts, a meaningful departure from his typical portraiture.

This large acrylic painting, filled with overlapping, vividly colored hearts, was completed after 32 days in lockdown. It serves not only as a response to the fear and isolation of the time but also as a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of healthcare workers everywhere. During its original release, Kyle donated 100 percent of the painting’s print proceeds to support those on the medical frontlines, reflecting the artwork’s true spirit of gratitude and solidarity.
