Story & Inspiration

Old Busch honors Busch Memorial Stadium, the St. Louis Cardinals’ home from 1966 to 2005, with its iconic arches and continuous upper-deck overhang set against downtown St. Louis and the Gateway Arch at night. Bold brushstrokes and splatter paint capture the energy of the ballpark and the millions of die-hard fans who filled it.

Opened in one of baseball’s most iconic traditions, when a helicopter transported the original home plate from Sportsman’s Park to the new downtown field, the stadium went on to host three World Series, Lou Brock’s 3,000th career hit on August 12, 1979, and Game 7 of the 1982 World Series. Its 96 roof arches were designed to visually echo the neighboring Gateway Arch and provided shade-covered seating that St. Louis summers made especially welcome, while outside the gates, the Plaza of Champions featured bronze statues of franchise legends like Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, and Jack Buck. For a decade in the 1970s, it also served double duty as home to the NFL’s St. Louis Cardinals.

Original painting SOLD to a private collector.
