A Tribute to the Grit Behind the Glory
The Farrier by Kyle Lucks shifts the spotlight from riders and champions to the skilled hands that keep the sport alive. Part of his Black and White Equestrian Series, this piece honors the quiet strength, precision, and craftsmanship of the farrier’s role. Positioned at the intersection of fire, steel, and anatomy, the farrier protects both power and grace through every shoe fitted. With bold contrasts and raw detail, Lucks captures the weight of responsibility behind each stride. The Farrier is a striking tribute to the unsung foundation of equestrian sport, where grit meets artistry behind the scenes.
Inside the Art: The Story Behind The Farrier
Farriers do not enter arenas to applause. Their work takes place in the dim heat of the forge and at the delicate balance point where a horse lifts a hoof. Kyle created The Farrier to spotlight this blend of blacksmith and veterinarian, showing how these craftsmen shape the very steps that carry riders to victory.
The abstract composition draws on visual cues of the hoof stand, hammer, and anvil without literal depiction. Instead, it evokes the tension of nails driven with care, the hiss of hot iron, and the calm patience required to secure a horse’s foundation. This is grit without glamour, a tribute to the essential hands that keep every gallop possible. Rendered in high contrast, the painting belongs to Kyle’s Black and White Equestrian Series, which explores overlooked corners of equestrian culture with emotional depth and respect.

Print Technique & Materials
Prints are reproductions of original paintings using a high-quality inkjet printing technique known as "giclee."
Unframed and framed artwork is printed on archival cotton rag paper, which is acid free and will resist fading and discoloration for generations. Unframed prints on paper are unsigned and feature a 1.5"-2" white border around the image. Most unframed prints are non-standard sizes and will require a custom mat to properly display the artwork, though the outer dimensions of the mat will fit standard frame sizes.
All framing is custom made to the exact specifications of each image, with an acid-free white mat and acrylic glazing (glass is prone to breaking when shipped). Most prints are non-traditional sizes and will not fit properly in mats or frames purchased off the shelf, therefore custom framing is recommended.
Canvas prints are referred to as "gallery-wrapped" because the color or image wraps around the sides of the canvas and it is stapled on the back. The canvas is wrapped around 1.5" deep wood stretcher bars and arrives ready to hang.
Framed canvas prints feature a "float frame," which has a 0.25" gap between the edge of the canvas and the frame moulding. The frame is 2" deep.
Custom Mat for Unframed Paper
Most unframed prints are non-standard sizes and will require a custom mat to properly display the artwork, though the outer dimensions of the mat will fit standard frame sizes.
You can purchase a custom mat from your local frame shop or online. If online, we suggest Matboard & More. Choose Arctic White in Decorative Quality, or if you prefer to upgrade, select White Art in Conservation Quality.
